Wishing Wells and Cash Gifts
Once upon a time cash gifts were very much given based on cultural backgrounds, today it has become widely accepted and, in most cases,…expected.
What one gives as a cash gift is dependent on the following:
- The “Repay” factor – repay what that couple gifted you
- The “Attendance” factor – how many of you will be attending the wedding?
- The “CPH” [Cost Per Head] factor – cover the cost per head charged by the venue
- The “Closeness” factor – how close is the person to you?
With all that in mind, the ‘correct’ amount can differ and do so considerably.
As an example, Rania and I received an average of $150 per guest. Some obviously didn’t come close, whereas others gifted five to ten times that amount.
Gifts in lieu of cash is not only more time consuming, but only applicable where the newlyweds stipulate it on their invites.
